Conker: Live and Reloaded (Xbox) Review

The game was originally a N64 game, but thanks to Rare moving onto the Xbox, we get to see a glorious rehash! The original had multiplayer, but if the name didn’t tip you off the game includes Xbox Live play!

The story is something along the lines of, you’re a squirrel, someone took your women, and uh…go kill stuff. Apparently, I’m not really sure to be honest, the story isn’t too important, but the dialogue definitely is! Really the game includes hours of great conversations and scenarios that, despite being aimed at minors who enjoy a good gutter joke, are still pretty funny and clever. Unfortunately the game is so hard at times you’re too busy wanting to get to the next area then being able to enjoy the environment the developers have created! Bull with a bladder problem, got it; erotic flower, check; complete parody of The Matrix and Saving Private Ryan, you bet! Honestly this game is pretty hilarious at times!

To get on the gameplay, it is good, but that’s not the point. Sometimes you’ll end up lost, or just dead due to overwhelming tasks, but frankly put, this game is HARD. Not to say it isn’t enjoyable, just pray you have some skill in Platformers before even attempting to beat the single player segment! Players of the original will notice 2 things throughout their playthrough 1) The graphics are really good, Conker looks even more loveable then before! 2) Some scenes have been changed for the bad usually. Though not a minor complaint, in The Matrix parody Conker hold only one Uzi, not 2 guns. Seriously, that’s hardly a complaint, but nostalgia is like a puppy, the older it is, the easier it is for it to go away.

The multiplayer, is truly worth it, even if you 100% completed the original, this game shouldn’t be passed for the multiplayer alone! The name of the game is war, Squirrels Vs. Tediz, choose your class, level, mission and get to meaningless killing! For a game with such goofy characters, its hard to imagine it being so violent, but, just like its single player brethren it is a extremely over the top gore fest. The really cool part of the online portion is the multiple classes and unlockables! There’s a Sniper, Swordsman, Standard soldier, sky-jockey, and the big guy with a rocket launcher! Then take all the kills you get and aim at unlocking new perks and extras for your characters! Unfortunately glitchers and cheaters are common; apparently Rare doesn’t know what an update is.

To summarize, this game is a supreme example of why games involving squirrels can be excellent…wait no that’s not it. Regardless this game is superb, if you get past the annoyances of single player you will enjoy the humor it has to offer! More importantly if you try out the Multiplayer chances are you’ll be hooked, if it weren’t for its dying out community and glitchers I’d consider it the best XBL game the Xbox has to offer.

+ Funny!!!

+ Amazing Multiplayer Gameplay

- Can be annoying

- Dead online, filled with glitchers and cheaters

Final Score: 8.5
