Zombies Seeker by 7 Raven Studios is a first person rail shooter for the Nintendo DS. This is one of those games that people put out on shelves for the off chance that some ignorant gift giver who knows someone likes zombies or survival horror will buy this game as a gift. The only survival horror I encountered in this game is trying to survive my horror at how terrible this game is to complete.
The story is extremely cliché: you are one of two teenagers a girl or a boy whose car breaks down in the middle of a creepy road and you are attacked by the undead. After this, you end up going to several creepy locales and blasting enemies that are unique to each area such as creepy clown zombies in the amusement park or flying plane zombies on the roller coaster level. Overall, the variety of enemies is cool looking, but sadly they really do not bring anything all that much different to the gameplay.

The art of this game can at times look like a spooky Halloween special from your childhood, but terrible animations destroy this and make me completely unable to enjoy the graphic experience of the game. This is a Nintendo DS game, but the graphics and animations remind me of a low budget N64 title from the 90's. The music of the game is kind of catchy, like the theme from your favorite pinball machine or Halloween level in a video game. Unfortunately, this is not enough to salvage the dreadful sound effects for enemies and gunshots that rattle off through the game.
Gameplay is super sketchy and not fun at all. You scroll through the levels clicking on the heads of the enemies to kill them fast. Hit detection is terrible and I found myself using the pistol exclusively throughout the game due to the unreliable aim on the machine gun and shotgun. The worst part of the gameplay is that once you run out of health and try to continue the game, you only get as much health as you had before you took your last shot. The only way to recover health is by picking it up in crates that usually have ammo.
Unless you are extremely obsessed with Halloween or zombies, I would stay away from this title. And I mean obsessed to the point of health endangerment. You will find yourself wondering how something like this could still be released in the year 2011 or wondering why this game even exists at all. The game itself does not even take its story seriously. The characters are constantly questioning the positions they are in, breaking the fourth wall but in a bad way and therefore making the game both unentertaining and unfunny.

Bad. Do not buy or rent. This game is an awful side effect of the zombie renaissance. |
