Sony Refuses to Admit to New Handheld’s Errors

E-mail Print PDF

There are plenty of reports circulating online about the bulk of complaints and reports about the glitches and bugs weighing down its newest handheld console, PlayStation Vita. These reports, accompanied by very convincing videos, have been floating out of Japan these past few days, and have shed light on how the Vita system freezes and how the touch screen fail to respond.  Sony replies that these glitches and issues are isolated cases, and needless to say, the company is “annoyed” with all the negative talk about the Vita.

Of course, there are plenty of gamers who think that an unbiased report of the PlayStation Vita performance is more credible than a PR person claiming otherwise.

The PlayStation Vita will be launched in America and Europe in February 2012, allowing the company plenty of time to look into the errors of their newest product, or continue to claim improved performance.

PlayStation Vita’ start out the gate in Japan has been a "slow plod" with numbers showing sales of 18,000 last week and just over 500,000 in its life to date. The Vita is set to release worldwide later this month so Sony will need to do something really positive in order to get traction. GPT has been doing the rounds of "popular" retail outlets and so far the vibe isn't promising.

Sony’ Vita certainly looks like a race horse, and has a good position on the track coming from Sony – but many people appear to be unwilling to bet money on it winning. The challenge (in my personal opinion) is not a case of Vita being good or bad, but just the fact that the market is already being saturated with portable devices. We only have so many vacant pockets to carry gadgets around. The other challenge is that those pockets that are free are also empty of cash...

Sony may need to get down and dirty this time – and start competing with the new generation digital devices, for the present generation of consumer.
