Genres make up anything that can be categorized. With video games we see these genres expand over the years and some not for the better. For every trend setter like Grand Theft Auto launching sandbox we have bad titles that start terrible new genres or damage the reputation of established ones. Today we'll look at five genres that are the worst in gaming.

Dating Sims

If you are a fan of this genre you are either taking up residence in Japan or need to get out more. These titles cater to the kind of gamer that gives the rest of us a bad reputation. These games are for people who are afraid to talk to real women so they play games were (usually) cartoon women are afraid to talk to them. In recent years the JRPG has sadly begun a decline into eventually merging with this genre in the future. If you have a look at Record of Agarest War, some would argue it has.

Stealth

Gaming is about action not avoiding it and silently taking out guys only to fail if you get caught. Stealth games also have a tendency to be popular only for their narratives. Have you ever noticed how stealth games have the wackiest plots of all video games? It has to be why gamers come back and put up with sub-par action. I played Metal Gear Solid for the insanity of that series story, not the stealth action toted on the box.

Hack N Slash

An entire army stands in front of you, the lone warrior. Sounds great except that Hack N Slash titles are all about looking pretty as you topple large armies and creatures. The actual meat of the game play is smashing the X button and sometimes the Y button (Square and Triangle for Sony gamers). It looks great at first but at what point will gamers tire of these very boring grindfests. Dynasty Warriors Gundam has done it right by at least including a hefty storyline that keeps the player sane.

Wrestling

The sport itself is one of worst things around, and these games just help solidify that no good can come out of Wrestling. These games are clunky, have terrible nonsense storylines occurring and come out often. The redeeming qualities of this genre used to come out of gamers efforts to create their favorite actor or comic book character in the Create A Wrestler feature. The downside is once that characters made you have to PLAY the game.

Survival Horror

The scariest thing about Survival Horror will always be the control schemes. Tight and unresponsive controls are welcomed for these titles. Even in Resident Evil 5 Chris Redfield moved like a tank. The actual games play out like B Horror Movies that never know when they succeeded with the scares and move too quickly into sillyness. Last years Deadly Premonition is a fine example of when your horror title turns into an awkward comedy.
