Square-Enix is a company that has always been at the center of attention for many gamers. The recent acquisition of Eidos has added a fairly large amount of titles to their line-up. This year at E3 they showcased some huge games that attracted much attention.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was given mind since it is their second true sequel to any of their games, the only other being Final Fantasy X-2. Final Fantasy XIII-2 takes place a few years after the events of XIII and adds in many new features. Square-Enix has expanded upon the already amazing battle system of XIII with things such as quick time events to increase the strength of your attacks and even having monsters fight alongside you. The E3 trailer for this title showcased three new heroes; Serah (Lightning’s sister), Noel and a Moogle. Finally Square-Enix left us with a single line of dialogue that surprised everyone: “Lightning is dead.” XIII-2 is sure to be a fantastic seller and is at the top of many gamers' most wanted lists.
Still, I was left wondering why there was no coverage on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The title has received barely any official announcements, which is especially frustrating when no one is sure if it is still a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Given the flop that was Final Fantasy XIV, it is still probable for the Xbox 360 to receive a port of Versus; Square-Enix isn't exactly at their peak financially.

The Eidos side of Square-Enix covered the upcoming Lara Croft reboot simply titled, Tomb Raider. This entry in the series is a complete revamp and will reconstruct the origins of Lara. Not much has been stated about the game other than that at the beginning of the title you are stranded on an island. This entry is said to focus much more on combat than the previous games. While the game had already been announced back in December, E3 showcased the first trailer for the title. An interesting note is that this new game will use the same graphics engine as Final Fantasy XIII.
Square-Enix also announced a good number of other titles but they did not get nearly as much coverage as the previous two. Hitman is going to be receiving a new entry in the series as well as Dues Ex and Dungeon Seige. Heroes of Ruin is another lesser title that was announced and Dead Island, a Zombie Action/RPG title, was also shown. Through a leak from Nintendo, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 was found to have a localization in process for release on August 31st.
Most of the announced titles are scheduled for a release either late this year or some time in 2012.
